Botox Cosmetic treatment just celebrated its 10th anniversary. The popularity has created complacency in some patients when it comes to the seriousness of injections and avoiding bruising. According to recent online article there are some simple steps to follow to avoid bruising before Botox injections or injections of hyaluronic acid fillers. According to the article there are steps that patients can take before injections to reduce the likelihood of bruising which is a normal side effect. Certain medications and supplements will increase the likelihood that there will be bruising so it is important to avoid certain medications and supplements at least 10 days prior to the appointment. These include any NSAID pain relievers like aspirin, Aleve, Advil, or Motrin. These will all thin the blood so if the a pain reliever is necessary the only acceptable pain reliever, would be Tylenol acetaminophen prior to the appointment. Supplements can also make bruising worse so patients should avoid taking gingko biloba, ginseng, omega-3, St. John’s Wort, and vitamin E also. Green tea seems harmless but it can increase bruising also, it is recommended to avoid drinking green tea at least 10 days prior to treatment. The day before treatment patients should avoid all alcohol including a glass of wine ,this too will increase bruising. The supplements that will help to prevent bruising include bromelain and arnica. These are helpful prior to treatment as well as after treatment if there is subsequent bruising.
