What is a Butt Lift?
Gluteoplasty, which is commonly known as a butt lift, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to lift and tighten the buttocks to make them appear more attractive and youthful. The procedure involves removal of excess loose skin and repositioning of the surrounding tissue to provide an enhanced body contour.
The procedure is different from a Brazilian butt lift, which involves injecting patient’s own fat into the buttocks to add volume and achieve a lifting effect. In some cases, the cosmetic surgeon may perform a butt lift in combination with fat grafting in order to achieve better augmented results. Dr. Seify is an experienced surgeon for this procedure in Newport Beach and Orange County, CA.
Who is a Fantastic Candidate?
Patients who are bothered by the appearance of large amounts of loose skin on the buttocks or back of the upper thighs may be outstanding candidates for a butt lift plastic surgery. In some cases, patients with cellulite condition may also benefit from a butt lift. Patients should ideally have a moderate and stable body weight.
The procedure is designed to tighten and lift the buttocks, but it is not intended to remove large fat deposits. Individuals in fantastic health who are non-smokers or committed to quitting smoking several weeks before and after the surgery may be outstanding candidates. A plastic surgeon will encourage a candidate to have realistic expectations about the outcome in order to achieve satisfactory results.
Procedure
Butt lift cosmetic surgery may be performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on the extent of surgery and the circumstances of a case. The procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision in the targeted area from where the excess skin needs to be reduced.
The loose skin will be removed surgically through the incision, and re-drape the remaining skin tightly and smoothly in its new position. The incisions will be closed with sutures or skin adhesives. The surgeon may place temporary drains under the skin to help remove excess blood or fluid. The dressings or bandages will be applied over the treated area.
Recovery
For the first few days, the patient may not be allowed to rest in a sitting position. It will usually take about a week to 10 days for the patient to resume regular activities and return to work. However, extended sitting hours should be avoided for a few more days. Heavy lift or strenuous exercises should not be carried out for at least one month.
In some cases, the cosmetic surgeon may recommend a butt lift in conjunction with other complementary procedures. Liposuction, thigh lift or tummy lift may be commonly combined with butt lift to achieve more harmonious overall outcome. Full effects of a butt lift will be visible within one to two months as the swelling and bruising resolves.
