Non-surgical Eye Lift

Loose skin and wrinkles around eyelids can make a person appear older and tired looking. Many patients in Newport Beach and Orange County, CA opt for eye lift plastic surgery treatment to achieve a rejuvenated look. However, some patients may not be keen to undergo an elective surgery, but still wish to improve their appearance of eyes and reduce the signs of aging. Ultherapy may be an ideal treatment for such patients who are keen to reduce the wrinkly looking skin around the eyes without surgery. This ultrasound-based, FDA approved procedure will usually take about half an hour for eye lift alone, or about one hour when combined with other areas such as cheeks, jowls, and upper neck. Unlike cosmetic surgery, the treatment involves very little or no downtime. Some patients may experience mild swelling, but usually there is no bruising or redness. Focused ultrasound energy penetrates into the underlying soft tissue and causes bio-stimulation to produce new collagen. Gradual skin firming and tightening in the eye lid area occurs over a period of next six to eight weeks.

Procedure

Ultherapy eye lift treatment is usually performed under local anesthesia with the help of an anesthetic cream around the eyes, in addition to oral Ibuprofen pills half an hour prior to treatment. As the patient sits in a comfortable chair, the plastic surgeon or another ocular operating expert will deliver the treatment using a smooth applicator. Sub-skin layers are visible to the expert during the treatment on the Ulthera screen. A specific skin depth is treated with each smooth applicator. The heat energy delivered to the deeper layers of soft tissue causes coagulation of blood vessels and stimulates production of new collagen. The treatment does not affect the outer layers of the skin, unlike many other non-surgical treatments. Around the eyes, the smooth applicator delivers energy at a relatively lower depth of 1.5 mm because the skin is thinner in this area. This is the benefit with Ulthera treatment that precise amounts of energy at a precise depth can be delivered to achieve desired results within a localized area with minimal impact. Sometimes, the cosmetic surgeon may recommend Ultherapy in combination with Botox or dermal filler treatment for more comprehensive outcomes. So if you’re considering plastic surgery, take the time to explore your options and find a surgeon who can help you look and feel your best.

Is Plastic Surgery Expensive?

One of the common questions that any new patient usually asks is whether plastic or cosmetic surgery is an expensive treatment? The answer to this question can be highly subjective because the cost of each surgical procedure may vary. Even within the same procedure, the cost may vary from one geographical region to another and from one plastic surgery practice to another. With so many variations involved, sometimes it can be overwhelming for a patient to determine what how to obtain the best value for money for an elective surgery procedure.

Firstly, it is important to understand that plastic surgery is just like any other surgical procedure, and is likely to involve similar costs of treatment as any other medical surgery. Therefore, it is not something that is going to be exceptionally expensive. One of the key issues with any elective surgery is that the procedure may not be covered by the health insurance policy. That gives rise to the perception that the procedure is costly because it must be paid out of the patient’s pocket. Many plastic surgeons provide support in terms of financing of the treatment to help patients undergo the procedure of their choice.

Factors that Affect the Cost

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery advises that patients should consider all the cost components associated with a procedure. This will help them plan their finances properly well in advance before they go ahead with a surgical procedure.

Geographical Location

The cost of a cosmetic surgery procedure will firstly depend on the geographical area where the practice is located. The cost is primarily in line with the average cost of living in a particular state or city. Average incomes of people are usually in proportion to the cost of living in a region, which allows people in that region to afford the cost of treatment.

Surgeon’s Fee

Any expense that is related to health, well-being and physical appearance of an individual should not be seen only from a cost perspective. A qualified, experienced, highly skilled, and renowned plastic surgeon is likely to cost more in terms of fee. But the cost will be long forgotten, and the benefits will continue to accrue for years. On the other hand, a poorly performed procedure may cause constant dissatisfaction, and may even lead to more spending in terms of a revision surgery.

Other Costs

Cost of the hospital or the surgical facility where the cosmetic surgeon performs the procedure will make a difference. The facilities, equipment, technical support and the quality and experience of the staff and services influence the cost of a procedure. Another important component is the cost of anesthesia. Patients should also include an estimate of the cost of prescription drugs, cost of post-surgical garments, and cost of laboratory tests and evaluations that may be involved with the procedure.

Costs Vary for Different Procedures

Plastic surgery, whether it is performed in Newport Beach, CA or another location, and whether it is performed at an advanced, state of the art hospital facility or a less expensive practice, will also differ in terms of costs according to the nature of the operation. Some procedures such as breast lift, butt lift, brow lift, lip augmentation, eyelid lift, rhinoplasty, or ear surgery may be relatively lesser expensive because they are focused only on a single part of the face or body.

Similarly, partial procedures such as a partial facelift or mini tummy tuck may be less expensive compared to a full-fledged surgery. Liposuction, for instance, may usually cost more than a minor cosmetic procedure, but less than an extensive surgery such as breast augmentation with lift, or tummy tuck procedure. A comprehensive undertaking such as a mommy makeover may cost more because it involves multiple surgeries. Patients may also consider non-invasive or minimally invasive treatment options that are usually more affordable than going under the knife.

Review all of Dr. Seify’s Procedures and Treatments:

women in businessDr. H.M. Seify is an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon, specializing in aesthetic as well as reconstructive surgeries. He provides a comprehensive range of cosmetic surgery procedures to his patients in and around Newport Beach, CA. Innovations and technological advancements in the field of plastic surgery have encouraged a lot more people to consider these treatments to enhance their physical appearance. Safety and effectiveness of many procedures has improved due to new surgical techniques and better technologies. Apart from the rise in the number of patients looking for surgical treatment to improve their physical appearance, there also appears to be a new segment of working women who seek treatment from a cosmetic surgeon for the sake of their jobs and careers. There seems to be a growing belief among a section of women that cosmetic enhancement of their looks can help improve their competitiveness at the workplace. In Dr. Seify’s experience, there are women in Newport Beach, CA who are specifically interested in cosmetic treatment to improve their chances of success in their careers.

Linking Cosmetic Surgery with Career Success

There is no evidence to suggest that any kind of discrimination may exist at the workplace on the basis of how an employee looks. However, there is plenty of feedback and anecdotal evidence from working women themselves that reveals their inherent belief that looks do matter in every sphere of life, including the place of work. Women have spoken about it openly in interviews on television and print publications in recent years. They have talked about how they feel more reassured and self-confident at the workplace when they are looking attractive and youthful. Plastic surgery is no magic pill to boost a woman’s career prospects. But it may provide that extra psychological support and confidence to some women who tend to perform better when they feel good about their own personality and appearance. Working women are usually looking to improve their vibrancy and freshness, and not necessarily having a desire to enhance their facial features, figure or other beauty points. In fact, they make it clear to the cosmetic surgeon in many cases that they are not keen on a dramatic change or a ‘plastic’ appearance, but just subtle improvements in their face and body.

Non-invasive and Minimally Invasive Options

For women in Newport Beach, CA and other places, surgical treatments are still the first choice in many cases. However, with a spate of FDA approvals for innovative non-invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic treatments in recent decades, there is an increasing level of demand for these procedures. Some of the popular non-surgical procedures include cosmetic facial fillers, Botox, chemical peels, laser skin rejuvenation, and treatments based on ultrasound, radio frequency, thermal, and fat freezing technologies. Plastic surgeons are providing these treatments, particularly because of the advantages of these treatments for working women. These treatments involve minimal or no downtime and the results are more under-stated than surgery in many cases. These fit in with the needs of a busy working woman who is looking for a simple and swift cosmetic solution to make her appear more youthful.

Cosmetic Surgeries for Working Women

Working women in the middle age group are usually more inclined in favor of surgical treatments because they are looking for more effective and longer lasting outcomes. They may not be interested in major procedures such as breast implants, tummy tuck or facelift, unless their figure needs a substantial improvement. They may seek less invasive cosmetic surgery procedures such as mini tummy tuck, partial facelift or forehead lift, liposuction and breast lift. Working women, in many cases, do not wish to be perceived as “old” in comparison to their peers, and they are looking for procedures that can somehow freeze or delay the progression of their signs of aging. Even when they seek a facelift procedure, they may ask the surgeon to retain the wrinkles, but only soften their impression rather than giving them a dramatic facial makeover.

Plastic Surgery and Job Economy

A survey compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in 2009 showed a clear linkage between cosmetic treatments for working women and the general economic conditions. The study involved 756 women in the 18 to 64 age group, who were overwhelmingly of an opinion that looks can have an impact on their competitiveness at the place of work. 73 percent of respondents in the study said that youthful appearance can help in obtaining that coveted position or any position at all, acquiring a promotion, or picking up new customers for the business which always makes the supervisor happy. Review all of Dr. Seify’s Cosmetic Surgery Procedures and Treatments:

women in businessThe New York Times website posted a recent study that drew a conclusion that those who have had cosmetic surgery did not increase that much in attractiveness or a youthful appearance. Looking at this study, one might be thinking “well, what’s the point in plastic surgery?” The study did raise some points, but the article pointed out that there were some flaws in the study. The article introduced the study as follows: “Patients who get facial plastic surgery often assume that they will look younger and more appealing afterward. But a new study, the first to try to quantify attractiveness after a face-lift, brow-lift or eyelid surgery, found only a tiny, insignificant increase in attractiveness. The study, published online in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery on Thursday, also found that patients looked, on average, only three years younger, as judged by independent viewers who assessed photos of patients before and after cosmetic surgery.”

Findings in the plastic surgery study and its flaws in the conclusion

The study had 50 people rating 49 people ages 42 to 73 who had undergone plastic surgery. Also, the study had not one rater see the “pre- and postoperative shots of the same person, lest they deduce the study’s aim, and at a six-month follow-up, patients were excluded if they had had a nose job or injections of anti-wrinkle medicines like Botox.” When the raters were to guess the patients’ ages they found that the guesses were about “2.1 years younger, on average, than their chronological age before surgery, and 5.2 years younger after surgery, an overall difference of 3.1 years, with minimal changes in attractiveness.” Although the findings are disappointing some plastic surgeons who have read the study found some flaws such as the small sample of raters in the study. Also, one plastic surgeon pointed out that “they are looking at a face that looks older in some ways, and younger in some ways. It’s difficult for the raters, and confusing.” Another had said that “assigning numbers has an incredible potential to be misused.”

Plastic surgery Still Has its Benefits with Dr. Seify

juvederm 4This above study that the New York Times pointed out raised some interesting points, but there are flaws that led to their conclusion.  Plastic surgery still has it merits in terms of looking younger and refining features. At Dr. Seify’s practice, we believe that it is not about total alteration of the face and body to the point where it looks unnatural or unrecognizable. And bottom line, it matters only to the patient if he or she is happy with the results. If you still want to take the plastic surgery route where you are sure to find satisfying results for yourself, call and schedule a consultation with Dr. Seify.
As the aging population becomes a more influential part of the population is becoming obvious that getting older does not mean that patients cannot look their best. A facelift has long been the landmark of proof that a person is showing the signs of aging on their face. Many plastic surgeons perform facelift some patients who are well into their 70s and 80s. However, it is important to realize that there is a difference between a person’s real age and their biologically. In reality this can be a huge difference. Dr. Seify explains to his patients that the real distinction in whether or not a patient is too old for a facelift is primarily rooted in their health status. There are some patients who are 60 however there biological health is similar to that of a 90-year-old old because of lifestyle choices like smoking, excessive drinking, or less than admirable eating habits. This is when Dr. Seify’s medical judgment has to be considered when deciding whether or not to proceed with facelift surgery for this type of patient. When patients move forward with facelift surgery Dr. Seify is careful to inform them of potential risk that and possible complications that are related to the surgery and post surgery. For older patients Dr. Seify may work with the primary care physician to assure a safe plan of action for the patient. Also medical clearance performed by their primary care physician will be required prior to surgery. Patients who have cardiac concerns for example, may have a different plan of action because of the impact the surgical procedure can have on the patient especially with respect to the type of anesthesia that would be utilized. The results of a facelift on older patients are generally very good provided the patient is in good health. The patient must be realistic concerning their expected outcome. Patients must take their age and consideration when creating expectation for surgery. It is not likely that they will have a result allowing them to look 35 years younger than their real age. However secondary facelift procedures according to several different published studies can yield results for patients that allow them to look 7 to 10 years younger than their real age. With patients living longer, it is not uncommon for patients to have undergone two or three facelifts well into their 70s and 80s. Dr. Seify encourages patients to look and feel their best at every stage of their life. Patients were considering a facelift are encouraged to contact Dr. Seify and schedule a consultation.
