Synmastia after Breast Augmentation

Synmastia | Symmastia | Breast Augmentation | Newport Beach | Orange County CA Synmastia, also known as symmastia, is rare complication that may occur following a breast augmentation cosmetic surgery. Sometimes the surgeon may be trying to enhance the cleavage, and in the process the breast implants get placed too much towards the middle of the chest. The condition may also occur due to the quality of the patient’s breast tissue and the size of the implants. Due to synmastia complication, the patient may experience undue pulling on the midline tissues. The breasts tend to come together as the implant pulls the skin and tissue off the breast bone. The result is that the cleavage is lost, causing synmastia, which essentially means ‘one breast’. Only a highly skilled and experienced plastic surgeon should perform synmastia repair surgery. Dr. Hisham Seify is a board certified plastic surgeon providing this procedure to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby locations.

Need for Corrective Surgery

Some patients make the mistake of delaying synmastia corrective plastic surgery. This can have an adverse impact on the final results of the procedure. In most cases, the synmastia condition may occur at the time of primary breast augmentation surgery, shortly after or within a few months of the procedure. Best results can be expected when the repair is performed as soon as synmastia occurs. Timely surgery will help in preventing stretching of the breast skin and reduce the nipple distortion or asymmetry that could occur if the condition is allowed to last for long. If abnormal breast skin stretching and nipple deviations take place due to synmastia complication, the treatment will become more difficult. The cosmetic surgeon may have to perform multiple revision procedures to correct the condition in some cases. Patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and surrounding areas can receive this procedure from Dr. Seify.

Procedure

Synmastia condition may occur in submuscular, subglandular, subfascial, or subpectoral implant placements. The condition may range from pushed together cleavage appearance to the total joining of the breasts into a single structure. A variety of surgical approaches may be used to reverse the condition of synmastia. Some surgeons may attempt external suturing through the skin, but this is a poorly designed procedure that can leave significant scarring and the problem may not be corrected permanently. A preferable choice is implant revision surgery in which the breast pockets will be reinforced from within. The surgeon will roll the scar tissue into the inner aspect of the implant pocket. This will provide strength and allow the placement of internal sutures to hold the tissue and skin to the breast bone. Once the breast pockets are fixed, the surgeon can re-insert the implants without recurrence. Each patient’s condition is unique, and will require the application of different techniques to match with the condition. The surgeon will usually prescribe a T-front bra to help maintain the space between the breasts during the recovery period. The patient should follow the surgeon’s instructions during the recovery period to speed up the healing process and ensure a complete recovery.

A Breast Lift: Do you need one?

Breast Surgery | Breast Lift | Newport Beach | Orange County CABreast lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to firm up and lift the breasts to a more youthful position. Many women seek breast implant consultation when they may actually require a breast lift procedure. It is important for a woman to understand whether her aesthetic needs can be met with a breast augmentation or breast lift procedure, or a combination of the two. The plastic surgeon will primarily determine whether a candidate needs breast lift or not by taking into consideration her breast anatomy, degree of skin elasticity in the breasts, size of breasts, and the patient’s personal aesthetic goals. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Hisham Seify is a leading provider of breast lift and other procedures to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and surrounding communities.

Consultation Process

During the initial consultation process for breast augmentation or breast lift plastic surgery, the surgeon will encourage the candidate to ask questions and clarify all her doubts and concerns. At the same time, the surgeon will also ask questions to ascertain the patient’s innate aesthetic needs and expectations. Some of the key questions that the surgeon may ask will include the following:
  • Are you satisfied with the size of breasts in proportion to your body?
  • Are you satisfied with the current level of firmness of breasts and the position of nipples?
  • Are you keen to achieve greater fullness in the upper half of the breasts?
If the answers to the queries indicate that the candidate would prefer to increase the size of breasts and enhance upper half fullness, but is reasonably satisfied with the existing firmness of breasts and position of nipples, then a breast implant surgery may be recommended. On the other hand, if size is not much of a concern, but the candidate is unhappy due to heavily sagging breasts and downward pointing nipples, a breast lift procedure may be recommended. If the concerns pertain to size as well as firmness, a combination of breast lift and breast augmentation may be the best option. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Seify will carefully examine the patient’s overall condition, and assess her intrinsic aesthetic needs before recommending the most appropriate treatment approach. Dr. Seify provides breast procedures to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby locations.

Determining the need for a Breast Lift

Many women are initially surprised when the surgeon suggests breast lift as the right procedure for them instead of breast implants, or suggests breast lift with implants. The surgeon will determine the patient’s need for breast lift after as careful examination and detailed consultation. If the nipples are located below the inframammary fold (IMF) level, it indicates that the patient needs to have a repositioning of the nipples and gland to a higher level. The surgeon will usually make the candidate stand up with her arms at her sides. A woman may also perform a check by standing in front of a mirror, turn sideways, and observe her breasts from the side. In this position, if it is seen that the nipples are falling below the breast crease or IMF level, then it indicates that the woman requires a breast lift surgery. If the nipples are position at or above this level, then she may only be a candidate for breast implant surgery.

Fat Grafting Can Reduce the Appearance of Breast Implant Rippling

Advancements in surgical techniques and superior quality breast implant materials have made breast augmentation cosmetic surgery safer and more predictable than ever before. However, complications may still develop in breast implants at some stage. Implant rippling is one of the common occurrences, which can adversely impact breast appearance. It is possible to mitigate the appearance of rippling effect of the implants in most cases with fat grafting. An experienced plastic surgeon will recommend this technique in order to avoid the need for a breast implant replacement surgery. Dr. Hisham Seify is an eminent plastic surgeon who can provide the fat grafting procedure to address the condition of implant rippling. Dr. Seify receives patients from Newport Beach and surrounding areas.

Why Rippling Occurs?

In the original breast augmentation surgery, if the size of implants chosen is too big for the patient’s breasts, it may cause the breast tissue to stretch. Implant rippling may take place in one or both breast implants if the amount of breast tissue is insufficient to cover the implant. In such a situation, the rippled implants can be replaced with new silicone implants, but such a breast revision procedure would be complex as well as costly. Rather than subject the patient to a major plastic surgery to replace implants, the surgeon can choose fat grafting technique to add volume and coverage to the existing implant. A fat grafting procedure is not designed to correct implant rippling, but it can make the rippled effect significantly less noticeable.

How it Works

Fat grafting technique allows for the opportunity to place extra fat in a highly precise manner in exactly the areas where it is required. The harvested fat cells are placed over the implants to increase fullness and to improve the shape, which reduces the visibility of the rippling effect. The fat grafting technique provides the best benefit to women who have an overall thin figure, as they are more likely to suffer from implant rippling. The procedure helps to create a type of padding over the implants and thicken the tissue over the implants. The volume can be increased in the upper pole of the breasts, which covers the rippling of the underlying implants. In some cases, minor imbalances between implants can also be corrected with fat grafting.

Sensitive Technique

As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Seify provides the fat grafting procedure to patients in Newport Beach and other regions. Patients should choose the best surgeon for this procedure in order to achieve consistent looking results. Fat grafting is a very sensitive technique, and every part of the process from fat harvesting to fat purifying to grafting will make a difference to the final result. Partial fat loss occurs during the harvesting process, but an expert surgeon can ensure that at least 70 to 90% of the inject fat survives. Multiple grafts are usually required primarily because of fat loss that occurs during the process. A stellar and acute surgeon will be able to achieve the best results with the least requirement for multiple treatment sessions of fat grafting. Breast Implant Construction

Cosmetic Surgery | Breast Augmentation | Breast Implants | Newport Beach CAThe choice of breast implants will have an impact on the final outcome of breast augmentation cosmetic surgery. It is important to have a basic understanding of the construction of these breast implants. The primary types of breast implants approved by the FDA include silicone and saline implants. An experienced plastic surgeon will try to explain the pros and cons of various implant choices and help the patient make an informed decision. Dr. Hisham Seify is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast augmentation and other procedures to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby locations.

Breast Implant Shell

In a breast implant device, the outer portion is called the shell. This shell is made of silicone for both saline and silicone gel based implants. This outer shell silicone is not the ‘gel’ type, but a firmer type of silicone, which makes the shell reasonably thick and durable. The surface of the shell may be created smooth or textured. Prior to the breast augmentation plastic surgery, the patient will have to make choices such as the texture of the implant shell. Breast implants with a smooth surface are slippery, and can move around if the breast pocket where the shell is placed is roomy enough. On the other hand, textured implants are designed not to move within the breast pocket. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Seify helps his patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby areas make the right choices.

Breast Implant Core

The core of the breast implant is filled with either silicone gel or a saline solution. Both types of implants are easily accessible in the US and both are approved by the FDA. Saline implants are originally empty, and the surgeon will fill them in the required volume at the time of the augmentation procedure. This gives an advantage of a relatively smaller incision to insert the implant in the deflated condition. However, in recent years, silicone gel based implants have become more popular because of the natural touch and feel of the material. These implants come prefilled with the gel in specific sizes, and the gel volume cannot be added or removed later. In case of saline implants, the woman should be in age group of over 18 years, and in case of silicone implants, she should be above 21 years. Apart from the age limitations, there are no other restrictions on the use of saline or silicone implants for breast enhancement in the US today. The implants may also be used in breast reconstruction following a mastectomy or loss of breast tissue due to an injury.

Highly Cohesive Silicone Implants

Some of the latest qualities in silicone implants are filled with an advanced quality of silicone gel, which is highly cohesive in nature. The strong density of the gel ensures that even in the instance of implant shell damage, the gel does not leak out from the shell or spread to other areas of the body. This makes it a fairly safe option among silicone implants. The other benefit is that highly cohesive silicone implants are aesthetically superior and provide a more natural touch and feel. Breast Augmentation Asymmetry

Cosmetic Surgery | Breast Implant Asymmetry | Newport Beach | Orange Country CABreast augmentation cosmetic surgery may sometimes lead to a condition called breast implant asymmetry. In this condition, the breast implants fail to settle in the desired position on the chest wall, or settle in different positions. In most cases, the implant symmetry is minor and does not require a corrective procedure. The asymmetry will usually not be detected in bras or clothes, but may be noticeable when the woman closely examines her breasts in the mirror. However, in a few cases, the asymmetry may be more conspicuous, requiring a secondary procedure by a plastic surgeon. Dr. Hisham Seify is a board certified plastic surgeon providing corrective surgery for breast implant asymmetry. Dr. Seify receives patients from Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and surrounding communities.

Types of Implant Asymmetry

Upper pole fullness If the breast implant fails to descend appropriately, an upper pole fullness may occur, which will leave the implant too high. Upper half fullness of the breast will occur, which can appear unnatural. A relatively simple upper pole fullness corrective plastic surgery will be performed in such a case. The implant on the high side will be repositioned downwards by the releasing the scar tissue capsule. Scar tissue release on the affected side will be done by cutting on the lower half of the scar tissue capsule. The implant’s weight will then rest on the new lowered position. The degree of scar tissue release will depend on the size of the implant or how much of breast implant lowering is required. Lower pole fallout If the breast implant settles very low, then lower pole fallout can occur. This can be more difficult to correct. This condition can occur due to the weight of the implant, the quality of the breast tissue, or if the cosmetic surgeon made the original implant pocket too low. If the pocket is very low, the inframammary breast fold may be released too much. The result will be reverse of the upper pole fullness in such a situation. The condition can be corrected with a breast revision procedure. Reconstruction of the breast fold will be performed on the involved side. Following the surgery, the patient will be required to wear a support bra for about four weeks to enable the fold to reform and heal. Dr. Seify provides breast revision and other procedures to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and other areas. Misdirected Nipple This type of implant asymmetry involves malpositioning of the nipple over the breast mound. The nipple areolar complex should ideally be close to the most projecting point of the implant, and on the breast mound. The choice of breast implant size should be made while taking this aspect into account. If the implant is poorly positioned, the nipple may be misdirected. When the implant has adopted different positions on different sides, the nipple will point in different directions. Patients should note that it is normal in many cases to have nipples at different levels. If the patient is made aware of this fact at the pre-op stage, she will have realistic expectations and will feel satisfied with the final results because she will have a better understanding on what to expect. Astounding Body Lift Surgery in Newport Beach CA

Body Lift | Body Contouring | Newport Beach | Orange CountyAging, genetics, the environment, and other factors will typically take a toll on a person’s body over time and cause loss of skin elasticity and weakness in the underlying tissue and muscles. This can cause sagging skin, uneven body contours and compromise the aesthetic appearance. It is possible to counter this condition through diet and exercise up to a point. However, in cases where the condition does not improve significantly through diet and exercise, the cosmetic surgeon may recommend body lift plastic surgery. Newport Plastic, led by board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Hisham Seify, is a state of the art practice providing a range of body lift surgery procedures. Patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive advanced and innovative cosmetic surgery procedures from Dr. Seify.

Fantastic Candidates

Body lift plastic surgery may be suitable for any man or woman who is bothered by the presence of loose skin or uneven body contours in a particular area, which is resistant to diet or exercise. The candidate may have lost the natural elasticity of the skin or underlying tissue due to aging, hereditary factors, sedentary lifestyle, major weight loss, prolonged sun exposure, pregnancy, or previous surgeries. Body lift cosmetic surgery solutions are typically sought by patients suffering from excess skin or fat deposits in the upper arms, thighs, buttocks, groin, abdomen, face, or breasts. The procedure is designed to reduce excess skin and fat, and enhance the body tone and contours. Patients bothered by the presence of cellulite, which makes the skin appear uneven, wrinkled or dimpled, can also benefit from body lift surgery.

Key Procedures

As an experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Hisham Seify is in a position to offer some of the most effective and advanced body lift procedures to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby areas. These procedures may include the following, and more than one procedure may be recommended in some cases, depending on the patient’s aesthetic needs.
  • Liposuction
  • Breast Lift
  • Facelift
  • Neck Lift
  • Thigh Lift
  • Arm Lift
  • Mini Tummy Tuck
  • Buttock Lift
In most of the body lift procedures, the cosmetic surgeon will use general anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia. Most procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure begins with the surgeon placing small incisions in discreet locations in the targeted area. Through the incisions, the excess skin will be removed, and underlying tissue may be tightened as needed. If the patient suffers from stubborn fat deposits along with sagging skin and muscles, the surgeon may combine the procedure with liposuction to remove excess fat. Once the procedure is completed, the incisions will be closed with sutures or skin adhesive.

Recovery

Most patients will be able to resume their regular activities or go back to work within a week to 10 days after body lift surgery. However, strenuous exercises should be avoided for at least six to eight weeks. Full results of the procedure will appear gradually as the swelling subsides completely.
