Ear Surgery in Newport Beach, CA
“Ear pinning” or "Ear shaping,” otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to correct the shape, size, or positioning of one or both ears.
The ears play a critical function in our everyday life, but are often taken for granted. The ears play an important role in determining our overall facial appearance, and ears that are uneven, too large, or protrude prominently can create an asymmetrical or unbalanced visage. An otoplasty procedure is a safe, corrective measure to help restore facial symmetry and enhance the proportions of the facial structures.
Otoplasty surgery can correct a variety of aesthetic issues pertaining to the ears. It is appropriate for patients who feel that their ears are simply too large (a condition known as macrotia), as well as for individuals who are concerned about that their ears protrude too far from the head. Ear surgery is also an effective option for patients suffering from a congenital or injury-related ear deformity.
Whatever the reason, ear surgery can restore a pleasing sense of proportion to your faical appearance and have a profoundly positive impact on your self-esteem.
Because the ears play such a vital functional role in every aspect of our lives, it is important to make the right decision when it comes to selecting the surgeon who will perform your otoplasty. Dr. Hisham Seify has all the necessary qualifications to facilitate a safe and successful otoplasty experience. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon, Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of California at Irvine. You can rest easy knowing that Dr. Seify has the experience, knowledge, and technical skills required to achieve optimal results from your otoplasty procedure.

OTOPLASTY PROCEDURE in Orange County
Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure, performed in the surgeon’s office under general anesthesia or IV sedation, usually aided by local anesthesia. The procedure requires small, discreet incisions either on the back surface of the ear or within the ear folds at the front of the ear, taking care in all cases to minimize visible post-operative scarring. The incision points and placement of external stitches are carefully planned in advance of the procedure, taking into account each individual’s unique facial structures, and ensuring that the ear alterations do not distort other features of the face or create a “pulled back” appearance. Once the incisions have been made, the cartilage of the ear will be re-shaped and sutured into the correct place with internal stitches. In some cases, additional shaping may be required, depending on the specific problem and desired result for each individual patient. Excess cartilage may be removed from the concha (hollow area next to the ear canal) if this is the cause of any protrusion. Other areas of the ear, such as the antihelical fold (located on the inner rim of the ear), may be augmented to ensure symmetry. Any excess skin will be removed, and the earlobes may be pinned into place to complete the shaping of the ear.

OTOPLASTY RECOVERY At Newport Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Associates
Given the delicate nature of the organ involved, otoplasty does require special care during recovery. It is vital that all bandages covering the surgical site remain undisturbed until directed by the surgeon. During the recovery time, which generally lasts 10 to 14-days, the patient must take care not to subject the incision points and external sutures to intensive movement or abrasion. These precautions will keep the external sutures clean and free of infection, protect the newly-shaped ears from damage, and maintain the correct position of the ear throughout the healing process. Failure to follow these precautions could cause the ear to shift in position and require future corrective surgery. Any post-operative swelling and bruising will generally resolve within 2-3 weeks, at which point the patient should be able to resume normal exercise routines.
