Facelift Plastic Surgery – Types of Lifts, Cost, Recovery, & Results

Facelift Plastic Surgery

Rhytidectomy commonly known as facelift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure to reduce the facial signs of aging and enhancing the overall contours of the face and jaw. Subtle or dramatic results can be achieved with this procedure, as per the aesthetic needs of the patient.

Dr. Hisham Seify is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift and various other procedures for the breast, body and face. Patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive facelift surgery from Dr. Seify.

Suitable Candidates

Healthy adults who are unhappy with the appearance of wrinkles and lines on the face may consider facelift plastic surgery. Ideally, the candidate should have some amount of skin elasticity and suppleness to achieve optimal facial contours. The underlying bone structure should be strong and well-defined to support and contribute to successful results.

Types of Facelift

Facelift surgery can be categorized according to the type of technique used to perform the procedure:

Endoscopic Facelift

This is an advanced technique involving smaller incisions through which the surgeon will insert a tiny endoscope or microscopic camera. Once the surgeon has a clear view of the underlying facial structure on a monitor, it is possible to remove excess skin and redistribute fat in a more precise manner and restore a younger looking face.

Cutaneous Facelift

This is an old technique, which is limited only to the surgical removal of loose skin. It involves a longer incision along the hairline through which the surgeon will remove excess skin and re-drape the tightened skin smoothly. The underlying muscular structure is not affected with this procedure.

SMAS Facelift

This is a more popular, comprehensive facelift procedure that involves lifting and tightening of the underlying muscle structure to enhance facial contours. Excess skin will also be removed, and results can be more natural looking and substantive compared to older facelift techniques.

S-Lift

The procedure involves an S-shaped incision in front of the ears. The incisions are smaller as compared to a traditional facelift, leading to reduced risk, and shorter recovery period. Jaw and lower face are ideally treated with this technique.

Deep Plane Lift

If the patient needs a focused treatment in the mid face area, including prominent nasolabial folds, a deep plane lift may be used. The technique involves lifting of the entire facial structure as a single unit.

Facelift and Your Wallet

The cost of facelift surgery can vary from one patient to another or one practice to another, depending on several factors. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Seify will discuss all aspects, including costs, during initial consultation with his patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby areas. The average cost in the US for facelift surgery is about $6,000, but excluding the costs of anesthesia, surgical facility costs, and related expenses.

Recovery and Results

Most patients can go back to work or resume their normal activities at home in about 10 to 14 days. Vigorous exercises should be avoided for about one month. Results will continue to establish over several months as swelling subsides gradually. On average, a facelift surgery can take five to 10 years off the patient’s face.
