Facelift revision is a cosmetic surgery performed with a goal to correct any anomalies that may have occurred in the primary facelift procedure. Recovery in facelift revision may not be very different from the primary procedure, but may sometimes take a longer time if the revision is more extensive.
At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will explain various aspects of facelift revision surgery to the patient and help them make an informed decision.
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Hisham Seify provides facelift revision to patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and neighboring communities and towns in this region of the state.
Key Elements in Recovery
Recovery in case of facelift revision plastic surgery will not only involve a considerable physical recovery, but also emotional and social recovery. The patient should be prepared that the recovery of natural skin sensation in the treated sites will also take some time.
As the procedure will involve changes to the facial appearance, social and emotional aspects become almost as vital as the physical aspects. Total recovery period may be about two to three weeks.
The surgeon will remove the drain tubes and sutures in about a week to 10 days. Thereafter, the patient can resume their routine activities or go back to work. However, a few patients may require at least two weeks at home before the signs of surgery begin to subside. Some residual swelling may linger on even after two weeks, but it can be hidden with makeup.
After the first week, signs of bruising will resolve fast. Patients with a thin face may have an advantage because the temporary swelling in the face may only look like subtle facial fullness, and may be less conspicuous. The treated sites in the face will significantly improve by the third week.
Most patients will experience mild numbness in the skin around the incision sites, but it usually resolves on its own in a few weeks.
Suture sites will be slightly firm in the first two weeks, but this will not be visible to others. The surgeon will provide post-operative care instructions, which should be followed for a safer and easier recovery.
Suggestions for Driving During Recovery
During the first week, the patient should avoid driving because stiffness in the lower face and neck may cause pain while turning the head. If the patient is taking some pain medications, they should not drive until the course of medication continues. On the first drive after the procedure, the patient should preferably have another driver accompanying them who can take over if the patient feels tired.
Resuming Activities
While the patient will usually be able to return to normal household or workplace activities after a week, they should continue to refrain from any type of vigorous activity or exercises for at least two to three weeks. These activities should be resumed only after receiving explicit go-ahead from the surgeon.
