Neck Lift Surgery

View Our Specials The face plays a vastly important role in everyone’s day-to-day lives. It is what allows you to communicate your emotions non-verbally and display your unique expressions. It is what defines your appearance and it is often what distinguishes you from those around you. Unfortunately, the face and neck are also some of the first areas of your body that will begin to display visible signs of aging. As you get older, the delicate and constantly-exposed skin on your face and neck will begin to lose elasticity and tissue volume. Eventually, gravity, lifestyle habits and environmental factors take their toll on the skin’s appearance and result in unsightly jowls on the lower face, deep creases or wrinkles and loose skin on the neck. Aging can lead to a wide range of undesired and discouraging changes to the appearance of the face and neck, such as:
  • Sagging or lax facial skin
  • Excess fat pockets present in the lower face and neck
  • Deep folds, lines and wrinkles
  • Double chin or loose jowls on the lower jaw and neck
  • Weakened neck muscles resulting in a drooping jawline or neck bands
If you are struggling with any of these common concerns that accompany the natural aging process, a facelift or neck lift procedure can help you to turn back the clock on an aging face so you can look and feel like a more refreshed and youthful version of yourself once again. Gone are the days of facelifts that look “windswept” or “pinched”. In the hands of an experienced Orange County plastic surgeon such as Dr. Seify, modern face and neck lift techniques allow for discreet incisions and natural-looking results that preserve your face’s unique beauty for years.

What Are My Options?

Modern plastic surgery allows you to address these problems with an aging appearance safely and with near-permanent results to rejuvenate your skin and restore the well-rested appearance of youth. A variety of procedures at Newport Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are designed to correct virtually any symptoms of aging on the face and neck with natural-looking results. While a facelift will focus more on eliminating fatty deposits and excess skin from the lower face, a neck lift will work to improve the appearance of the neck and jawline. Today’s face and neck lift procedures go far beyond the one-size-fits-all techniques of the past. Dr. Seify will work with you to develop precise, customized surgical plans that are designed to address the specific problem areas and unique goals of each patient. A facelift, or rhytidectomy, works to fully address moderate to advanced signs of aging present around the mid to lower face and neck. Considered to be the gold standard of facial rejuvenation, this procedure works to tighten underlying facial tissues and muscles while removing any excess skin and fatty deposits to achieve a more attractive, youthful contour. The skin is then redraped over these improved structures that result in a smoother and firmer face for years to come. A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a procedure designed to specifically address visible signs of aging present in the jawline and neck. A neck lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift procedure to comprehensively address all concerns with aging in the face and neck region within one operation. However, it may also be performed as a stand-alone procedure for patients who are still pleased with the appearance of their mid-face but have concerns with excess wrinkling and lines on their neck skin or a jawline that resembles a “turkey wattle” or unsightly jowls.

What to Expect From Your Procedure

The duration of your facelift procedure can last anywhere from two to five hours depending on a wide range of factors, such as the severity of your concerns, your personal goals, the extent of the facelift surgery and whether another procedure will be performed at the same time—such as a neck lift. To ensure your comfort, these procedures are performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation depending on the extent of the correction required. Many of the surgical techniques in a face and neck lift procedure utilize carefully-placed incisions both in front of and behind the ear to minimize any post-operative scarring and provide natural-looking results. The first step of your face or neck lift procedure could utilize liposuction to remove any excess fat deposits from the face, jowls and neck that may be unflattering or weighing down your skin. Next, Dr. Seify will separate the underlying facial and neck tissues from the skin so that the weakened muscles of the face and neck may be adjusted and tightened into a more lifted position. Finally, your skin is draped over the repositioned tissues, and any loose or hanging skin will be sutured or removed entirely if necessary. In some cases liposuction is not needed and only deep tissue tightening and skin redraping is done.

What to Expect From Your Recovery and Results

While the results of your surgery will be immediately apparent, your appearance will continue to improve drastically over time as the face and neck regions heal and swelling diminishes. After the operation, most patients will notice moderate swelling and bruising around the face, jawline, ears and neck. Patients may also experience some mild to moderate discomfort post-op, or as though their skin feels too tight for their face. However, most surgical swelling and discomfort should abate within seven to ten days of your procedure. Overall swelling will take roughly three to four weeks before it fully diminishes, after which patients can enjoy their firm, youthful new appearance for years to come.

Non-Surgical Facelift:

In select patients a non-surgical technique could be used which include a combination of Botox, fillers, laser, ultrasonic or Radio frequency skin and deep tissue tightening. The use of these modalities is patient dependent and each patient will have a tailored procedure depending on their need and the amount of facial aging.
