Breast Augmentation Review – Newport Beach | Orange County

breast augmentation newport beach orange countyNewport Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Newport Beach, California, is a state of the art practice for a wide range of plastic surgery procedures. The practice is headed by Dr. H.M. Seify, who is a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive training in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA and surrounding communities may receive advanced treatments for procedures such as breast implants, tummy tuck and mommy makeover at the practice.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is one of the more popular procedures performed by cosmetic surgeons in the United States. It involves enhancing the size, volume, and fullness of breasts with the help of saline or silicone based implants. Women who are dissatisfied with the natural small size of their breasts, those who perceive their breasts to be smaller and are unhappy with it, or those who have experienced loss of breast volume following a pregnancy, aging, or other factors such as mastectomy or injury, may choose breast augmentation to restore the breast size. The procedure may also be used for women who suffer from asymmetrical breasts up to a moderate extent. If the breasts are sagging due to aging, major weight loss or other factors, this condition may improve slightly with breast augmentation, but the procedure is not designed for this purpose. Breast lift may have to be performed in such cases to improve skin tightness and elasticity. In some cases, breast augmentation may be combined with breast lift to achieve more complete outcome. Patients in and around Newport Beach and Orange County, CA have an opportunity to receive treatments such as breast implants, tummy tuck and mommy makeover from Dr. Seify.

Preparation for Breast Augmentation Surgery

During the initial consultation, the plastic surgeon will evaluate the patient’s general health condition, past medical history, any previous surgeries, medications being currently taken, and the size, shape, and elasticity of breasts. He may require the patient to undergo certain medical tests as necessary. A baseline mammogram prior to surgery may be required. If the patient is a smoker, the surgeon will ask her to quit smoking several weeks prior to surgery. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs will have to be avoided for a few days before surgery. The surgeon will also give special instructions on post-op care and follow-up visits.

Procedure

Breast augmentation plastic surgery procedure begins with the administering of anesthesia. The surgeon will choose between the options of general anesthesia and IV sedation, depending on the patient’s needs. Certain medications may be given to add to the patient’s comfort during the procedure. The surgeon will make incisions in the areas already identified as a part of the treatment plan. The goal will always be to keep the incisions as inconspicuous as possible. The incision may be inframammary, transaxillary, or periolar incision. The choice of incision will depend on various factors such as the type of breast implants, the degree of breast enhancement needed, patient’s unique anatomy and preferences of the patient and surgeon. A choice of implants will be made in advance in consultation between the patient and the surgeon. Both saline as well as silicone implants are approved by the FDA for cosmetic breast augmentation for women in the age group of 18 and older and 22 and older respectively. Breast augmentation cosmetic surgery involves placement of the breast implants inside the breasts. This placement may be submuscular or subglandular, depending on the patient’s needs. Submuscular refers to placement under the pectoral muscle, and subglandular refer to placement of the implant behind the breast tissue, over the pectoral muscle. Once the implants have been placed securely into position, the cosmetic surgeon will close the incisions. The scars will fade with the passage of time.

Recovery and Results

Breast augmentation results are visible almost immediately. Swelling with reduce over time, incision lines will fade, and fuller results will be visible at that stage. The post-op recovery period in this treatment is usually between 24 and 48 hours. Patient will have to do with reduced physical activity for a few days. Swelling and soreness will be eliminated after a few weeks. The surgeon will give specific instructions on issues such as how to care for the breasts following the procedure, what kind of medications to use in order to expedite healing and minimize the risk of infection, and dates for recommended follow-up visits to the cosmetic surgeon. Final results of breast augmentation procedure can last for several years. However, it is important to understand that results of augmentation are not permanent. Most patients may need a replacement for breast implants during their lifetime.   See more procedures and treatments by plastic surgeon Dr. Hisham Seify in Newport Beach | Orange County

What is Smart Lipo? – Newport Beach | Orange County

Newport Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, led by Dr. H.M. Seify in Newport Beach, CA, provides the latest plastic surgery as well as non-surgical treatments for cosmetic enhancement. Dr. Seify is a board certified plastic surgeon with specialization in the area of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. He has received nearly 13 years of post-graduate training, including a doctorate from Emory University. Dr. Seify received the 2007 Sherrel J. Aston Award from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine as well as being a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of California at Irvine (UCI medical Center).

Laser-based System

Smart Lipo is a unique laser liposuction system or lipolysis that is designed to enhance body contour and achieve skin tightening by disrupting fat cells and tightening deeper tissue in the skin. Many cosmetic surgeons use Smart Lipo as an effective adjunct procedure to liposuction surgery in order to achieve more comprehensive results. The treatment is primarily targeted to reduce localized fat deposits on the body and face. Smart Lipo works as a minimally invasive technique that uses laser energy to coagulate targeted blood vessels in a controlled and safe manner. This helps achieve more conservative results with less bruising and bleeding compared to a treatment that involves liposuction cosmetic surgery alone. In the area of laser liposuction treatments, Smart Lipo is the leading cosmetic procedure, preferred by many plastic surgeons and other cosmetic treatment experts.

Benefits

The following are some of the key benefits of Smart Lipo procedure for patients in Newport Beach, CA and other areas:
  •       Minimally invasive treatment
  •       High degree of safety and low risks
  •       Treatment can be focused precisely on targeted areas without damaging the surrounding tissue
  •       Tissue tightening is achieved through promotion of blood vessel coagulation
  •       Bruising and bleeding is reduced in comparison to liposuction alone
  •       Trauma and pain levels are reduced
  •       Healing and recovery is faster
  •       Excessively fibrotic areas can be treated well
  •       Results are consistent, predictable, and reproducible

Safety

Extensive clinical studies have been carried out over the last nine years to support the safety claims of Smart Lipo technology. A plastic surgeon can choose this minimally invasive system and combine it with surgical liposuction to achieve more conservative and ideal outcomes. The system only improves the levels of safety further because it reduces the extent of invasive surgery. Smart Lipo technology involves intelligent delivery systems that can assist the surgeon and reduce the chances of over-treatment. The operating physician or surgeon can determine the endpoint in an automated way with integrated motion and temperature sensing. Laser liposuction has become easier with new technologies such as Smart Lipo Triplex, which is an all in one laser system for efficient lipolysis. Treatment with Smart Lipo is high definition using the latest techniques. This allows for targeted heating, minimal impact, and faster recovery. More fibrous tissue associated with conditions such as lipomas and gynecomastia can also be treated with Smart Lipo. Obviously Smart Lipo covers a lot of ground and this is what it has impressed so many people, doctors and patients alike. Botox’s FDA Approval

Patients in Newport Beach, CA, who are keen to reduce the signs of aging from their face without surgery, now have some good news. They can receive Botox treatment to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet as the treatment has now been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA had approved Botox for cosmetic treatment of frown lines on the forehead in 2002. Now finally in 2013, it has given approval to Botox for the treatment of crow’s feet as well. These approvals are apart from the approvals that FDA has given to Botox over the last several years for the treatment of various medical conditions. These include treatment for chronic headaches and migraines, excessive underarm sweating, and involuntary eyelid spasms. Botox treatment, whether cosmetic or medical, should ideally be received by a qualified cosmetic surgeon or another certified Botox provider.

Why Choose Botox?

Botox is produced from botulinum neurotoxin, which is a powerful biological substance discovered nearly a century ago. For several decades the toxin was tested by scientists to evaluate its medical and cosmetic benefits. Eventually it received approvals from FDA, and quickly became one of the most popular non-surgical anti-aging treatments in the world. Botox is an excellent option for patients who are either unwilling or unable to choose full or partial facelift plastic surgery. The results with surgery are longer lasting, while Botox can only provide temporary benefits. But Botox has the following advantages that make it a popular treatment option:
  • Treatment is quick, safe and simple, involving no incisions.
  • Treatment does not involve general anesthesia or sedation.
  • An entire Botox session can be completed within 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the extent of treatment.
  • Botox treatment does not involve any downtime, and the patient may even go back to work immediately.
  • Results are visible almost instantly.
  • Treatment involves minimal or no pain and discomfort during or after the procedure.
  • Typical risks and complications associated with a surgery are avoided with Botox.
  • Treatment can be repeated for extended benefits.

Botox for Reduction of Crow’s Feet

Lateral canthal lines or crow’s feet are fine lines that radiate from the far outside corner of the eyes. These lines become more visible when a person smiles because the act of smiling makes the muscles in that area more active. As a result, the skin in that area develops a natural fold as the underlying muscle contracts. The more frequently a person smiles, the more frequently the skin fold occurs. The impact of crow’s feet increases with age because the skin loses its elasticity gradually with aging. Crow’s feet can be removed or reduced with cosmetic surgery, but Botox is an equally effective non-surgical alternative, although its results will last only for about three to six months. Botox medication is injected directly into the targeted muscle that has become overactive and is causing the formation of wrinkles. The toxin works instantly to block the neural pathways and effectively prevents the muscle from contracting. As the muscle remains paralyzed even when the person is smiling, the skin appears smooth.

 Botox Testing for Crow’s Feet

Botox achieved the FDA approval for reduction of crow’s feet after several tests and trials, including an extensive study of Botox involving two large groups of adult participants. The study was conducted by Allergan, Inc., the drug’s Irvine, CA based manufacturer. One of the groups, comprising 833 adults, was randomly chosen to receive a placebo injection of Botox. This group showed a marked reduction in the appearance of crow’s feet following treatment when compared to the other group that did not receive the treatment. Following FDA’s approval, patients in Newport Beach, CA may now receive Botox treatments for crow’s feet from a qualified plastic surgeon or a certified Botox provider to safe and effective outcomes.

 FDA Warning

Botox labels carry an FDA warning stating that the toxin’s effects can spread to other areas of the body from the area of injection, causing symptoms of botulism. However, the FDA also says that there has not been an occurrence of a confirmed serious case of this nature when Botox is administered in recommended doses by a qualified provider.   Review all of Dr. Seify’s Procedures and Treatments:

So if you’re considering plastic surgery, take the time to explore your options and find a surgeon who can help you look and feel your best.

Is Plastic Surgery Expensive?

One of the common questions that any new patient usually asks is whether plastic or cosmetic surgery is an expensive treatment? The answer to this question can be highly subjective because the cost of each surgical procedure may vary. Even within the same procedure, the cost may vary from one geographical region to another and from one plastic surgery practice to another. With so many variations involved, sometimes it can be overwhelming for a patient to determine what how to obtain the best value for money for an elective surgery procedure.

Firstly, it is important to understand that plastic surgery is just like any other surgical procedure, and is likely to involve similar costs of treatment as any other medical surgery. Therefore, it is not something that is going to be exceptionally expensive. One of the key issues with any elective surgery is that the procedure may not be covered by the health insurance policy. That gives rise to the perception that the procedure is costly because it must be paid out of the patient’s pocket. Many plastic surgeons provide support in terms of financing of the treatment to help patients undergo the procedure of their choice.

Factors that Affect the Cost

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery advises that patients should consider all the cost components associated with a procedure. This will help them plan their finances properly well in advance before they go ahead with a surgical procedure.

Geographical Location

The cost of a cosmetic surgery procedure will firstly depend on the geographical area where the practice is located. The cost is primarily in line with the average cost of living in a particular state or city. Average incomes of people are usually in proportion to the cost of living in a region, which allows people in that region to afford the cost of treatment.

Surgeon’s Fee

Any expense that is related to health, well-being and physical appearance of an individual should not be seen only from a cost perspective. A qualified, experienced, highly skilled, and renowned plastic surgeon is likely to cost more in terms of fee. But the cost will be long forgotten, and the benefits will continue to accrue for years. On the other hand, a poorly performed procedure may cause constant dissatisfaction, and may even lead to more spending in terms of a revision surgery.

Other Costs

Cost of the hospital or the surgical facility where the cosmetic surgeon performs the procedure will make a difference. The facilities, equipment, technical support and the quality and experience of the staff and services influence the cost of a procedure. Another important component is the cost of anesthesia. Patients should also include an estimate of the cost of prescription drugs, cost of post-surgical garments, and cost of laboratory tests and evaluations that may be involved with the procedure.

Costs Vary for Different Procedures

Plastic surgery, whether it is performed in Newport Beach, CA or another location, and whether it is performed at an advanced, state of the art hospital facility or a less expensive practice, will also differ in terms of costs according to the nature of the operation. Some procedures such as breast lift, butt lift, brow lift, lip augmentation, eyelid lift, rhinoplasty, or ear surgery may be relatively lesser expensive because they are focused only on a single part of the face or body.

Similarly, partial procedures such as a partial facelift or mini tummy tuck may be less expensive compared to a full-fledged surgery. Liposuction, for instance, may usually cost more than a minor cosmetic procedure, but less than an extensive surgery such as breast augmentation with lift, or tummy tuck procedure. A comprehensive undertaking such as a mommy makeover may cost more because it involves multiple surgeries. Patients may also consider non-invasive or minimally invasive treatment options that are usually more affordable than going under the knife.

women in businessDr. H.M. Seify is an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon, specializing in aesthetic as well as reconstructive surgeries. He provides a comprehensive range of cosmetic surgery procedures to his patients in and around Newport Beach, CA. Innovations and technological advancements in the field of plastic surgery have encouraged a lot more people to consider these treatments to enhance their physical appearance. Safety and effectiveness of many procedures has improved due to new surgical techniques and better technologies. Apart from the rise in the number of patients looking for surgical treatment to improve their physical appearance, there also appears to be a new segment of working women who seek treatment from a cosmetic surgeon for the sake of their jobs and careers. There seems to be a growing belief among a section of women that cosmetic enhancement of their looks can help improve their competitiveness at the workplace. In Dr. Seify’s experience, there are women in Newport Beach, CA who are specifically interested in cosmetic treatment to improve their chances of success in their careers.

Linking Cosmetic Surgery with Career Success

There is no evidence to suggest that any kind of discrimination may exist at the workplace on the basis of how an employee looks. However, there is plenty of feedback and anecdotal evidence from working women themselves that reveals their inherent belief that looks do matter in every sphere of life, including the place of work. Women have spoken about it openly in interviews on television and print publications in recent years. They have talked about how they feel more reassured and self-confident at the workplace when they are looking attractive and youthful. Plastic surgery is no magic pill to boost a woman’s career prospects. But it may provide that extra psychological support and confidence to some women who tend to perform better when they feel good about their own personality and appearance. Working women are usually looking to improve their vibrancy and freshness, and not necessarily having a desire to enhance their facial features, figure or other beauty points. In fact, they make it clear to the cosmetic surgeon in many cases that they are not keen on a dramatic change or a ‘plastic’ appearance, but just subtle improvements in their face and body.

Non-invasive and Minimally Invasive Options

For women in Newport Beach, CA and other places, surgical treatments are still the first choice in many cases. However, with a spate of FDA approvals for innovative non-invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic treatments in recent decades, there is an increasing level of demand for these procedures. Some of the popular non-surgical procedures include cosmetic facial fillers, Botox, chemical peels, laser skin rejuvenation, and treatments based on ultrasound, radio frequency, thermal, and fat freezing technologies. Plastic surgeons are providing these treatments, particularly because of the advantages of these treatments for working women. These treatments involve minimal or no downtime and the results are more under-stated than surgery in many cases. These fit in with the needs of a busy working woman who is looking for a simple and swift cosmetic solution to make her appear more youthful.

Cosmetic Surgeries for Working Women

Working women in the middle age group are usually more inclined in favor of surgical treatments because they are looking for more effective and longer lasting outcomes. They may not be interested in major procedures such as breast implants, tummy tuck or facelift, unless their figure needs a substantial improvement. They may seek less invasive cosmetic surgery procedures such as mini tummy tuck, partial facelift or forehead lift, liposuction and breast lift. Working women, in many cases, do not wish to be perceived as “old” in comparison to their peers, and they are looking for procedures that can somehow freeze or delay the progression of their signs of aging. Even when they seek a facelift procedure, they may ask the surgeon to retain the wrinkles, but only soften their impression rather than giving them a dramatic facial makeover.

Plastic Surgery and Job Economy

A survey compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in 2009 showed a clear linkage between cosmetic treatments for working women and the general economic conditions. The study involved 756 women in the 18 to 64 age group, who were overwhelmingly of an opinion that looks can have an impact on their competitiveness at the place of work. 73 percent of respondents in the study said that youthful appearance can help in obtaining that coveted position or any position at all, acquiring a promotion, or picking up new customers for the business which always makes the supervisor happy. shutterstock_20944378Many people do not have a problem of excess weight or obesity, but they suffer from stubborn fat deposits in specific areas of the body. This can spoil their overall appearance and create a disproportionate body. Liposuction is the most effective plastic surgery procedure to correct this condition. Dr. H.M. Seify is a board certified plastic surgeon in Newport, who has the expertise to perform liposuction in a safe and conservative manner. Many patients in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Orange County, CA and surrounding communities receive cosmetic treatments under Dr. Seify’s personalized care and attention.

What is Liposuction?

As one of the leading Newport Beach cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Seify provides liposuction treatment at his state of the art facility. During your initial consultation, he will explain the liposuction procedure and evaluate if it is an appropriate treatment in your case. Liposuction is essentially a cosmetic surgery that helps remove specific pockets of fat from areas such as the hips, tummy, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, knees, neck, and chin.

The goal is to sculpt the body to make it more proportionate and appealing overall. Dr. Seify will explain to his patients in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Orange County and other areas in CA that the long-term success of liposuction is possible only if the patient maintains an active and healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. The goal of liposuction is to reduce fats in areas that fail to respond to diet and exercise.

Top Candidates

Any adult who does not have any rare health complications and is unable to reduce fats in specific areas of the body may be an ideal candidate for liposuction. Such candidate should also fulfill the following conditions for liposuction surgery:

  • Keep realistic expectations from the procedure, and be aware that it is not a weight loss treatment
  • Should not be excessively overweight or obese
  • Should have some skin elasticity and firmness
  • Have concentrated fat deposits that do not respond to exercise and diet
  • Should not have cellulite

While age is not a factor for liposuction, but older adults usually have loss of skin elasticity, which prevents them from benefiting from this procedure.

Anesthesia

As an eminent plastic surgeon in Newport, Dr. Seify prefer to adopt a flexible approach to anesthesia, and customizes it according to the needs of the patient. He may choose local anesthesia, if the amount of fat to be reduced is very limited and the number of areas is small. However, if the procedure is going to be extensive with removal of large fat deposits, or must be combined with another surgery, general anesthesia may be a better option.

Procedure

The duration of the surgery will vary depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the size of the targeted area. The most common liposuction technique involves making a tiny incision to insert a narrow tube or cannula into the fat deposit area. The cannula is used to vacuum the fat tissue that lies underneath the skin. The fat cells are disintegrated and suctioned out with the help of a syringe or a vacuum pump. IV fluids are given to the patient immediately after the procedure to replenish the fluid lost along with the fat.

Dr. Seify is one of the most experienced cosmetic surgeons in Newport for liposuction. He uses several liposuction techniques at his facility, and recommends the most appropriate technique depending on a particular patient’s needs. This is a key advantage because it allows him to avoid ‘one size fits all’ kind of approach for his patients. Such expertise makes him a highly sought after plastic surgeon in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Orange County and other nearby areas in CA.

Tumescent Liposuction

This technique involves injecting fluid to the extent of nearly three times the amount of fat to be removed into the targeted area. The technique can be performed under local anesthesia, making it safer and more popular than other techniques.

Super-Wet Liposuction

In contrast to tumescent liposuction, this technique involves reduced use of fluids. The fluid injected in this case is equivalent to the volume of fat to be removed. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but takes lesser time compared to tumescent liposuction.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

In this case, a special cannula is used that can produce ultrasound energy. The cannula is passed through fat deposits to allow ultrasound to break the fat cells and liquefy the fat. The liquefied fat is then removed with the help of a suction pump.

Review all of Dr. Seify’s Procedures and Treatments:
The Internet is a vast marketplace these days. Few would argue that you can’t find anything you’re looking for if you look hard enough on the Internet. However, who would’ve ever thought you could get Botox online? Much less, who would’ve ever thought there’d be do it yourself Botox with instructions? The truth is there are” medical” websites that offer what they call  Botulinum toxin for sale over the Internet. While it of course is dangerous and potentially deadly there is a mass appeal for consumers who desperately want to look younger and have a perceived need to get the best deal to do so. Online marketers are cashing in on this desperation in what is an unregulated and illegal sale of Botox via the Internet. One of the supposedly medical sites allows consumers to purchase 100 IU vial of what they label is Botox complete with a set of instructions for $149. Of course Dr. Seify along with the rest of the legitimate medical community find this appalling and outrageous. This unscrupulous marketing of questionable at best grade of Botox to uneducated consumers is virtually unimaginable. One death has been reported so far as caused by the use of Botox purchased through the Internet. There are growing numbers of cases from people who through self injection of Botox ended up with muscles that were paralyzed or vocal cords that were paralyzed or even other serious results. Botox is approved by the US FDA to be used by cosmetic physicians for the removal of facial lines and wrinkles. Authentic medical grade Botox cannot be purchased without a prescription. Only a licensed medical physician is permitted to purchase authentic medical grade Botox and it is under the concept that the physician has the skill and knowledge and training for its proper use. Most doctors doubt that the Botox sold online is authentic or even that it has any Botox and it at all. What is most concerning is what it could contain as a substitute. Many wonder how this can even be allowed to happen. Due to the vast worldwide marketplace of the Internet the sale of illicit products is rampant. It is virtually impossible to regulate sense the FDA can only monitor and have jurisdiction over United States companies and businesses selling drugs. Dr. Seify warns patients about any products including Botox purchased through non-legitimate sources. Dr. Seify offers Botox and dermal fillers with occasional promotions throughout the year. Patients can save substantially and are encouraged to contact the office and make a reservation for our next Botox and filler special event for the best pricing. Review all of Dr. Seify’s Procedures and Treatments:
As the aging population becomes a more influential part of the population is becoming obvious that getting older does not mean that patients cannot look their best. A facelift has long been the landmark of proof that a person is showing the signs of aging on their face. Many plastic surgeons perform facelift some patients who are well into their 70s and 80s. However, it is important to realize that there is a difference between a person’s real age and their biologically. In reality this can be a huge difference. Dr. Seify explains to his patients that the real distinction in whether or not a patient is too old for a facelift is primarily rooted in their health status. There are some patients who are 60 however there biological health is similar to that of a 90-year-old old because of lifestyle choices like smoking, excessive drinking, or less than admirable eating habits. This is when Dr. Seify’s medical judgment has to be considered when deciding whether or not to proceed with facelift surgery for this type of patient. When patients move forward with facelift surgery Dr. Seify is careful to inform them of potential risk that and possible complications that are related to the surgery and post surgery. For older patients Dr. Seify may work with the primary care physician to assure a safe plan of action for the patient. Also medical clearance performed by their primary care physician will be required prior to surgery. Patients who have cardiac concerns for example, may have a different plan of action because of the impact the surgical procedure can have on the patient especially with respect to the type of anesthesia that would be utilized. The results of a facelift on older patients are generally very good provided the patient is in good health. The patient must be realistic concerning their expected outcome. Patients must take their age and consideration when creating expectation for surgery. It is not likely that they will have a result allowing them to look 35 years younger than their real age. However secondary facelift procedures according to several different published studies can yield results for patients that allow them to look 7 to 10 years younger than their real age. With patients living longer, it is not uncommon for patients to have undergone two or three facelifts well into their 70s and 80s.
